21-14, ten minutes and thirty seconds left until halftime with Washington Wilkes in the lead. The stadium was loud and we were on defense, stomping around the spilled nachos on the bleachers. We all yelled, “Defense, defense, defense.” Stopping Washington Wilkes from getting …show more content…
father down the field, our defensive line was pushing like bulls. Everywhere I looked I saw loud Greene County fans hoping for our tigers’ defense to stop the offense. Keeping them from getting the first down, it was then fourth down and time for Washington Wilkes to punt the ball to us. Greene County coaches jumping with joy because now we had a chance to tie the game up before half-time.
Now it was show time we are now on offense with our number one running back in the state in the backfield with the quarter back. The smell of hotdogs lured some fans from the stands to get their half-time meal. but the die-hard fans are on their toes hoping to tie the game up before half-time. It was the first play of this possession, the quarterback, receiving the ball from the center and immediately handing it to the star running back. The announcer in the press box has no choice but to announce the outstanding play Greene County has ran. “Number three from the Greene County Tigers runs down the field and gets a gain of fifteen yards.” The crowd is louder than ever, the band has even come to a standstill. Now with only five minutes and forty-five seconds left we must tie this game up.
The next play our quarter back tries to pass the ball; at the start of the play, the quarterback drops back and tries to find someone in the back field.
That doesn’t go as plan and he gets sacked in the backfield. GC fans are terrified because we just lost a few yards, but it isn’t over just yet. The team huddles up and the quarterback calls another play. Its looks like we’re going to run the same play that gave us a gain of fifteen. The center hikes the ball and just like before, he gives it to the running back. Everyone in the stands trying to look past all the players on the field to see where the ball is going. Suddenly, we see a black jersey come out of a pile of other jersey. As fast as lighting Greene County is running down the field aiming for a touchdown. The announcer once again “he’s at the thirty, the twenty, the ten, touchdown!” That seals the deal with only a minute left until halftime. Washington Wilkes fans sits with disgust all over their faces. Our rivalry that thought were going to blow us out, now has to go into half-time with a tied game. The fans happy as ever, can now go into the third quarter with all hopes that we can win the game. The band now playing the Greene County Tigers theme song, “Eye of the Tiger”, in good
spirits.
We are proud of the town we live in, after the long spans of cheering for our mighty tigers. I will always be a number one fan of the school I graduated from “Greene County High School.”
