Day 8
Watch Where You Get Your Meat
We participated in a Foer virtual interview where Foer himself answered some of the questions presented by us. This was a great and valuable experience since the author of the book, Eating Animals, that we read in class will be answering some of our own questions. Unfortunately the microphone and video did not seem to be working so he didn’t get to our question till the very end. It was very inspirational because Foer provided insight into our questions. Specifically when he said that you don’t necessarily need to stop eating meat but look into where the meat comes from and buy from meat processing companies that perform any cruel treatment. This shows that is more that one way to improve your eating habits. One doesn’t not have be a stern oppose to meat eating if he or she like to eat meat. If he or she wants to eat meat, Foer simply says that you should know where you are getting your meat and try to get it from organic companies.
This raises a curiosity within me of how much do I not know of that goes on behind the meat producing industries. If different companies are producing their meat in different ways, I am going to start to only purchase my meat from the most organic company. It is disgusting to know that some companies are cutting corners in their treatment of animals and meat in order to just save a few bucks. It seems that people need to be made aware of most meat processing companies so that they adhere from buying from their produce. In turn this will raise support to organic meat producing companies, thus creating a ball rolling effect where people will start to buy form organic meat producers and other meat processing companies will lose their customers.
