This excerpt from the story really tells me and the reader that Dumas and her family had a really good relationship with their community in California at the time. The community was always looking out for them and helping them adjust to their new lives there in California. Dumas and her family were extremely appreciative towards the community but there were some things that Dumas didn’t like. Many of the kids at school would often ask her about her country and according to Dumas this got very repetitive and annoying. It shocked their family about how little knowledge the people of America had on the country of Iran, and they did their best to inform them as much as they could about the country. …show more content…
All the kids in the school make it easier for her in this new place by making her feel welcome and by looking out for her. Even her community is making sure she’s doing alright like when one of the family’s mom brings a costume for her at the halloween party. If I were in her place and situation, then It would be really hard for me to adjust to a huge new country with all these new lifestyles, but living in a place where everyone is watching out for me and my family that would make it a lot
