we the millennials
We the Millennials Seventy five percent of the Millennials have a profile on a social networking site, which is almost greater than all three of the previous generations combined. Generation X, the Boomer Generation, and the Silent generation percentages combine up to only eighty six percent of having a profile on social networking, (Pew). This is mainly because they don’t have access to a computer. Many Millennials are spoiled, narcissistic and lazy due to the technology and bad parenting from Generation X. The Millennials are very narcissistic due to the influence of Social Media. Joel Stein claimed that the narcissistic personality disorder is nearly three times higher for people in their twenties than people in their sixties or older. (Stein) Many more adolescents and adults in the Millennial generation are obsessed with their looks compared to the past generations because of Social Media. Social Media influenced many teenagers and adolescents to look up to celebrities on television or magazines. These teenagers and adolescents idolize their celebrities’ appearance so they try to imitate their appearance through fashion. These popular fashion trends in society include makeup, clothing, accessories and dresses. Adolescents even change their manner of behavior by speaking in urban vernacular. Teenagers today use an immense amount of time to take a shower, pick out an outfit, and check themselves out in front of the mirror to see if they look good. Especially girls who tend to do makeup which takes up even more time. There are also many more unnecessary desires that our generation does to try and perfect ourselves. Such desires include: tweezing eyebrows, maintaining clear skin, applying anti pimple cream, shaving, getting piercings and tattoos.
When I look at my parents’ generation I realize that they do not try to better their physical appearance. They don’t care about how they look, or what they wear when they walk out the door.
