PSY/201 IQ Test

1) Did you feel the results were accurate?

No, I don’t feel the test was accurate, the reason I feel the test is not accurate is because to me a person’s intelligence cannot be measured by stupid questions. Not everyone can do well on test, especially if the test is being timed and I am one of those people.

2) Was the test biased in any way?

I feel measuring some one’s IQ can be considered biased. The reason I feel that it can be biased is because an IQ test separates what is considered to be intelligent people, to people who are below average. This is bias because intelligence has nothing to do with being book smart, this is just my opinion.

3) How do you feel about these types of scores being used to compare you with another person? Please explain?

I don’t really see how anyone can be compared to each other from these types of test because everyone is different. We all learn differently, we have all been taught differently, and some people are book smart, and some people are street smart. I have personally avoided taking these kinds of test, I have been asked to take them before and I have refused. To me intelligence should not be measured by math problems, reading skills, or any of these types of learning, but by a person’s experience with life, this takes intelligence, to learn from

Overall, I was satisfied that the results were accurate, and did not detect any sort of gender or racial bias to the questions it contained.     I would have to say yes that feel the results were accurate. Some of the questions I had to really put some thought into, and I tend to like those types of exercises because it makes me feel like I am actually putting my brain to use. IQ tests cannot be statistically demonstrated to measure innate intelligence because there is no way to verify their accuracy without changing the common definitions of intelligence to be a list of quantifiable real-life criteria to test accuracy. No such list can match the common definitions of innate intelligence, or even come close because the intelligence component of such criteria, free of bias, cannot be defined, separated, and quantified. Imagine that person A) goes to a good school, where they often practice questions similar to IQ tests. Sometimes they even take IQ tests. Person B goes to a bad school, they don't practice similar questions or IQ tests. Both are presented an IQ test. It is possible that person B) is more intelligent, but not having practiced an IQ test is not prepared for it. They are expected to do worse and probably will. I believe that IQ tests only measure one aspect of intelligence and may not be valid across every person.     The opinions of Herrnstein and Murray in their book, The Bell Curve is that human intelligence is both inherited and also has environmental factors that contribute to a person’s future in many different areas such as; finances, a career, when they start a family, and whether or not a person will break the law instead of a person’s level of education and economic status. The authors go on to say that the more intelligent people of society are keeping their distance from the less intelligent, staying within their own group of intelligence. There is a chapter of the book that discusses the different ethnicities and the score differences among them on intelligence tests and I disagree with what they say. Intelligence in my opinion is not accurately measured when it comes to all ethnicities groups because of the people that create the tests. I think that there should be tests created by all types of ethnicities. Can an African American formulate an IQ test for all Asians to take in order to measure their intelligence? In my opinion I would say, no. According to Herrnstein and Murray intelligence is 40% to 80% heritable. It is my theory that this would be terribly hard to predict without measuring the IQ’s of the majority of people in the entire world. Some people never have their IQ tested. I have never had an IQ test. So the only data there is pertains to people that have been tested, there is no accurate count of how many people have never been tested, as far as I can tell. There are socioeconomic factors that would play a role in the scores of people across all racial groups because it is my opinion that people who have access to an education can develop higher intelligence, and not all of us have the luxury of getting a good education or getting an education at all.     Before even getting to the components of the test, first lets take into account the fact that a lot of people out there do not have enough money for tutors or books who really need them for preparation.     From the perspective of six pillars of character, if I were Cindie, I would be honest with Lyndell and tell him what’s been bothering me. Hopefully, by keeping quiet about him leaving early, he will feel that I’m trustworthy enough to tell me his problems, whether it’s drinking or any other problems he is facing in his life.
