Abstract
In today’s society, Wireless technology has made a tremendous impact on the way we live from day to day. It is a technology that is being used all over the world and has changed the lives of many people and how they operate and live day to day. If you take a look around as you are driving or walking in your town, you will see the vast use of many different wireless technologies. You will see people with mobile devices such as cell phones, tablets, Bluetooth headsets, and even GPS systems for communication and navigation for their leisure in reference to day by day living. Some use these technologies for luxuries, while others for convenience and necessities to perform their daily work duties for daily living. Let’s take a look four different wireless technologies that exist today that have changed the world. Wireless technology has made life more enjoyable and more simple to live by in this era of today’s living.
There are many types of wireless technologies in the world today. The four I would like to elaborate on would be …show more content…
radio systems, satellite signals, Infrared and microwave signals. These particular forms of wireless technologies transmit data in different ways and have their pros and cons or advantages and disadvantages in their independent means.
Radio Systems have frequencies that contrast between 10 KHz AND 1 GHz. Higher radio frequencies have a tendency to bounce off of obstacles while when using lower frequencies, the frequencies seem to travel through obstacles. One drawback for all frequencies would be that any type of electrical equipment that uses Radio frequencies could disrupt signals. Radio frequencies are used for many types of long-range communication.
Satellite Signals are in direction of a system called “ Line of Sight.” These signals are used by our satellites that orbit in space to receive and transmit satellite data from one place in the world to another in a matter of minutes. Most of these transmissions have a constant uplink between the transmitting end and the receiving end to ensure a good constant connection. This type of technology can be very expensive but the advantage of this technology would be the range of distance that it covers compared to all other wireless technologies. So the only disadvantage or drawback here would be price. Distance can cost a lot of money. Satellite technology companies offer net services to the public and private business and home communities of today. These services are used today in our use of high-speed internet in far away places.
Infrared or IR is electromagnetic radiation with longer wavelengths than those of visible light.
It is situated outside the visible spectrum at its red end and used of radiation having a wavelength between about 700 nanometers and 1 millimeter. Infrared utilizes the used of light signals that is not really noticeable by the human eye. Utilized in LEDs and ILDs, Infrared technology produces photodiodes to receive transmissions. Infrared signals can’t pass through walls and is reduced in transmission by bright lights. One example of the use of infrared technology would be in my wireless remote control to my television at home. This may also be a technology that you may see in the everyday workplace but mostly for entertainment devices such as remote controls and
etc.
Microwave signals are electromagnetic waves with high frequencies that range between 500 MHz and 300 GHz with short wavelengths. One advantage of using this technology would be that it is not very expensive. It is very low in cost in relation to other forms of data transmission technologies. Microwave communication does not require cables or special equipment to maintain its signal strength during transmission. Microwave technologies are “line of sight” oriented. This means that their transmissions can’t pass through objects like mountains and buildings. Microwave signals flow from one fixed point to another.
Here we have looked at a few wireless technologies. There are many more in this world. If you take a look around, I’m certain that you can come up with a lot more. They have changed the way we live and work each day. Wireless technologies have made it easier to manage time and money also. Depending on your wants and the size of your organization will determine which type of wireless technology will be used to transmit and receive data. Some will work at faster communication speeds than others while physical boundaries will hinder others. The chart below will summarize the brief attributes and characteristics of the technologies that I mentioned above.
