Weekly Report Sample
Hello Dr Buxbaum,

Below is my weekly update for this week from 5th July '16 to 6th July '16.

1) VEP practice recording (Shank3 Mice):
- I had scheduled a VEP session today and while recording, I got -156 uv in a 20 successive stimuli presentation. Following this, I had recorded successive 3 sessions below -100 uv. I'll ask Hiro tomorrow if these 3 successive sessions would provide the confidence he needs to allow me to perform the VEPs on Shank3 cohort. Accordingly, I'll schedule a session to provide such recording results.

- The issue still persists after 10-15 successive runs. I had Hiro look into the grounding but he had to leave so we couldn't work on it. I'll try to schedule a morning session so that we can deal with the noise issue

- We have 8 rats that will be performing on S1b schedule (1st Schedule in the 5 Choice training) tomorrow. 4 rats are bumped up to S2b schedule while 2 rats are on S3b Schedule.

- Out of the 16 rats, 1 rat will be running on S4b Schedule tomorrow, which marks the half way of the training. There is one rat that will be running on a pre-training trial; although, based on its performance today, we are expecting quicker progress i tomorrow.

- We started tracking the rat's behavior using the floor insert I designed for the superbox today and have been able to successfully track the data without any noise from the surrounding compared to the previous noise infested tracking acquired using white glossy floors.

3) VEP Insert for Shank3 Rats:

- Good news on the Shank3 insert design is that the placed order has been shipped from the company and is expected to reach Mount Sinai by the end of this week.

- I have made the non-mitered piece designs by editing the final design work and will be getting the design in CAD file ready by Friday and will order for a quote from the NY Lasercut Company by next week,

If roof rats are seen exposed, it often indicates their hiding spaces are all filled by other rats or that they have been disturbed, such as by construction. Droppings are another good indicator of roof rat activity. Roof rat droppings are 12 to 13 mm with pointed ends, whereas Norway rat droppings are 18 to 20 mm and capsule shaped. Other indicators can include grease marks along surfaces as well as nests. Grease marks are produced as the rodent travels along an edge, and the oils in their fur are deposited.…

Based on the excerpt from the article Oh, Rats! by Albert Marrin, it is quite clear that the author is interested in and amazed by the survival advantages and characteristics of rats. For example, Marrin states, “Everything about the rat makes it a champion at survival.” He continues to list more examples, “It can squeeze through a pipe the width of a quarter, scale a brick wall, straight up, and fall off a five-story building and land safely on its feet.” These statements clarify ways that rats have better chances at survival than other species.…

My goal behavior was to teach my rat, Grimm, to play fetch by bringing a ball to me. I created a training plan that involved a minimum of two training sessions per day for 30 days. Through my training plan she should complete this behavior on day 25. I planned to accomplish this behavior by using a clicker, treats and a target (ball). Through a training plan, positive reinforcement, dedication and modifications to the training plan, Grimm should have learned to play fetch.…

The other problem that has always existed since 1944: Rodents. Two distinct species of rodents were prevalent, the brown rat (Norway rat), and the black rat (ship rat, roof rat). By 2014 the city’s rat population of the city was dominated by the brown rat. An often-repeated statistic is that there are more rats than people in the five boroughs of New York City (8.4 million in 2014). However, a 2014 study by Jonathan Auerbach a PHD student in the Statistics Department at Columbia University, reported in the Royal Statistical Society's Significance magazine, estimated that there were closer to 2 million rats in the city.…
