What Are The Benefits Of Using Steel As A Building Material
Task 3(a) There are many benefits in using steel as a building material. Steel is a very structurally stable material. It is also eco-friendly and energy efficient. According to Hewlett, a freelance writer in Houston, construction steel is recyclable with the rates of over 90 percent. Unlike wood, there’s no need to worry about the material rotting or damages caused by insects. It is very durable and can withstand most weather conditions. There’s also no need for deforestation that are harmful to the environment. Steel frame compared to wood is stronger and sturdier. It is also lighter and flame resistant. With the advancement of technology, steel can be form and bend to the user’s need. Constructing steel is faster than most materials, …show more content…
Lastly and admittedly an edge case, brick construction allows construction without using steel. Using traditional roof building techniques, it is possible to build domed and even near-flat roofs where needed.
Uses for recycled materials The benefits of using recycled materials have become more prevalent in recent years in the attempt to reduce environmental impacts within the building sector. If parts of the existing building are considered for reuse throughout the demolition phase of a construction, it can effectively reduce the cost of procuring new materials and the amount of waste that goes to landfill, in turn reducing the overall construction cost for the client.
Reasons for using recycled materials The building sector is one of the largest consumers of bio-productive land in Australia. Therefore, clients have to allocate additional costs to cover landfill and supplier fees. However, these costs can be dramatically reduced if certain materials from the existing building were preserved for reuse in the new construction

Reduces Energy Consumption: A large amount of energy is consumed by processing raw materials at the time of manufacture. Recycling helps to minimize energy consumption, which is crucial for massive production, such mining or refining. This also makes the production process very cost-effective and beneficial for manufacturers.
3. Reduces Pollution: Industrial waste today is the main source of all types of pollution. Recycling of industrial products such as cans, chemical, plastics helps to cut down pollution levels considerably, as these materials are re-used, instead of throwing them away irresponsibly.
4: Reduces Global Warming: Recycling helps to alleviate global warming and its ill effects. Massive waste is burned in heaps which produces large amount of greenhouse gas emissions such as CO2 and CFC’s. Recycling ensure that the burning process is minimized and any waste is re-generated as a useful product with no or minimal harmful impact on the environment. Recycling produces less greenhouse gases as industries burn fewer fossil fuels for eco-friendly products.

Consumers have also begun to recycle more frequently which benefits the planet because its resources are not being consumed at a much higher rate. By recycling simple everyday items, such as glass or plastic, resources can be replenished. The cost of recycling is very economical because everyone profits from it. Landfills are filled with some materials that are not biodegradable and recycling these items reduces not only the amount of waste in the landfills, but also keeps energy consumption and pollution down. For example, recycling the newspaper or any type of paper will prevent…

The sub claim Bandow has about recycling creating more air pollution has little evidence to back it up, but when factories are producing “renewed” items they are using energy that may or may not needed to be used. The author says “For instance, producing paperboard burger containers yields more air and water pollution and consumes more energy than does manufacturing polystyrene clamshells. It takes more water to recycle newsprint than to make it afresh”. The author claims it would be better to make new materials out of commodities that haven’t already been processed in factories or used by people. Are recycled items really beneficial to the environment or simply a “feel good” factor to thinking we are helping?…

Recycling greatly benefits many aspects of the world, particularly the environment. Almost everything used in today’s society is manufactured from plastic (i.e. water/ shampoo/ mouthwash bottles, food containers, furniture, technology, etc.). Due to this, not recycling plastic can lead to many problems in our environment. Recycling plastic promotes the conservation of energy and natural resources. It also contributes to the decrease of water and air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. To add, recycling plastic can save landfill space, or structure…

    (a) The issue that I and my group agreed upon was recycling as we wanted to raise awareness on the importance of recycling and help people to understand the benefits of recycling; Recycling helps conserve important raw materials and protects natural habitats for the future. Using recycled materials in the manufacturing process uses considerably less energy than that required for producing new products from raw materials – even when comparing all associated costs including transport etc. Plus there are extra energy savings because more energy is required to extract, refine, transport and process raw materials ready for industry compared with providing industry-ready materials.…

One reason the government should enforce mandatory recycling is to reduce the amount of natural resources needed to make products. The recycling of plastic, paper, and aluminum can help to reduce the amount of petroleum, water, trees, and aluminum ore that would be needed to produce new products. According to the article “Recycling Facts,” by recycling one ton of paper products Americans can “save 17 trees, 2 barrels of oil, and 7,000 gallons of water”. Along with saving trees by recycling paper, recycling aluminum can “save 37 barrels of oil” and recycling plastic can “save one to two thousand gallons of gas”.…
