They found that females officers had significantly lower levels of equal opportunity perceptions. Women also had more sexual harassment than male officers. Both the women that experienced sexual harassment and those who reported lower levels of equal opportunity indicated more job dissatisfaction (Burke and Mikkelsen,2005, p.136). even in this study there is a disparity in the ratio of women to men (16.3 percent were women and 83.7 percent were men).
Consequences of not having women equally represent is that the police force starts to become more masculine and women are not treated the same. Issues with sexual assault within the police lead to women not wanting to tell anyone what happens for fear of humiliation and no justice being served.
