What Are The Roles Of Children In The Military

Throughout history and in many cultures , children have been extensively involved in military campaigns even when such practices were against cultural morals. Many countries have used children in military uses for roles such as porters, spies , messengers, lookouts or as human shields . More than 250,000 boys have joined the army from Britain in World War I and ¾ have lost their lives or severe injuries or have lost their siblings in it or had to under go psychological trauma. The UN Security Council was informed that 300,000 children from the age of seven or eight were serving as soldiers ,supporting roles in armed conflicts in more than 30 countries around the world . It was also told wars between the past decade , armed conflicts had killed
nearly 2 million children

In 1989 The United Nations had passed a right in ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’, Article 38 stated that “ State parties shall take all feasible measures into ensure that persons who have not attained the age of 15 years do not take a direct part in hostiles.” In a resolution in 2005 the Security Council requested that the action plan for establishing a monitoring , reporting and compliance mechanism produced by the Secretary –General be implemented without delay. The most recent meeting of the UN was in 17 July 2008, were regularly to debate, receive reports , and pass resolutions
