Through the ages, love has been a staple subject in literature. Whether the book is arguing that love is good or bad, authors use love to add flow to their novels. However, it is important to note that love takes many different forms; these different forms shape the plots and characters. In Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger, love is shown between Franny and her brother, Zooey. Salinger created a tight bond between brother and sister that illustrates how family can pull one out of a low point. Jane Eyre is written so magnificently- I was in love with it as soon as I picked it up. Brontё so gracefully crafts a unique and beautiful voice for Jane. She writes with a naive and childish voice in the beginning. She describes the beauty of the English countryside is so fantastic it is like I stepped into the story. Jane is an iconic character and an inspiration because of her determination and her elegance. Jane is not a beautiful princess with money and a wild romance. She is a plain girl with struggles that dreams of independence. I see myself in Jane: a normal girl who values education but also hopes to find love after she eventually finds herself. Notwithstanding, I enjoyed reading Franny and Zooey for the insightful and psychological lesson in the end, rather than the writing. The book touches upon topics I often think about: submission to society, family, and education. Coming from a small town, I myself do not want to think the same way everyone from my town thinks.
