What Are The Three Committees
Sapphire Cardenas Sharifian Govt 2306 30 April 2018 Elected for Office
When I am elected for office, there are three committees I will support throughout my term; 1 education, health and human services, and the public health committee. There are many reasons why I chose these three committees, but there is one thing specifically that ties all three things together and that is mental health. Education is important to me because we gain majority of the information we learn from elementary through high school. I have realized from personal experience that mental health is important for people to understand, and the only way to help make people more aware of mental disorders is to speak about it more in the education system. I believe that the

The education system is failing at letting these kids recognize their own feelings. For example, I was being bullied in school and texted my mother to pick me up because it was becoming too much, so when they called me down to the office they scolded me for being on my phone (during lunch) and did nothing about the bullies. I did not have a counselor to talk to, and basically sat alone in an office for the remainder of the day while my bullies were having fun in gym, or art class. Does that sound like the proper way to handle a child’s feelings in school? At this point in time, I was unfamiliar with counseling and receiving help from anyone who was not family, but the older I got, the more I began to understand why some people grow up not wanting any help because something could have happened when they were younger and felt like they never had anybody to talk to because it was never something that was brought up in school. This is why I support the education committee to hopefully spread the word on mental illness and other diseases or disorders, and I support the health and human services committees because they provide help for children which is where the knowledge on health needs to begin. Finally, I support the public health committee because they are a devoted partner with …show more content…
I would also provide support for those who feel as if their children are being mistreated in any school or not being provided the care they need as a child. Of course, I would be open to any questions about who I am as a person, my lifestyle, I want my voters to feel as if we are family. I would be open to any interviews for newspapers, websites, social media accounts, you name it and I will give you any answer you desire as long as it is reasonable and

All over the world, bullying and victimization are common at various levels of schooling from elementary to secondary and beyond. The objective of bullying can range from humiliating to instilling fear in an effort to establish a character of dominance on the part of the bully. It can be in the form of physical violence, verbal abuse, or social isolation and can have lasting consequences on the victim ranging from low self esteem to the most severe: suicide. The question we all have to ask ourselves is where does this behavior stem from? Children are not born innate with an evil gene (excluding mental disease), therefore, we have to begin by looking at the family structure, the familial influence, and what role they play in the bullying behavior.…

Furthermore, Boyd and Marwick believe that adults should not only provide the resources but realize “recovery is a long and difficult process.” (363). A great deal of thought, preparation, and understanding needs to take place to help stop the bullying situation. “The key is to help young people feel independently strong, confident and capable without first requiring them to see themselves as either an oppressed person or an oppressor.” (Boyd and Marwick 363). The language teenagers use to describe the events of their life will not be the same language as the concerned adults.…

With this information, I took into account personal views about counseling, which I believe would be beneficial to children. As a former teacher, I realize that students often view their problems as very dramatic, “over the top,” horrific, etc., which all could be true from the perspective of the child. However, individual who are “on the outside looking in,” fail to understand the complication of the problem that the child is facing. Upon a child entering my office from a disruption within class or other problems, there are several steps that I must take into…

Eric Jensen, the author of the book Teaching with Poverty states that, “Some teachers may interpret students’ emotional and social deficits as a lack of respect or manners, but it is more accurate and helpful to understand that the students come to school with a narrower range of appropriate emotional responses than we expect.” Sometimes as teachers, we do not know what a student goes through at home that affects their behavior and emotions. Because of the issues going on at home children are impacted emotionally and psychologically, which has prevented them from learning. The things they learn in school don’t stick with them because they are not focused on what is going on in the…

In my own school setting, staff aim to create an atmosphere in which feelings are spoken about and taken seriously. Each class has a form teacher who takes registration periods twice a day allowing a trusting relationship to be built between teacher and pupils. Some of this time is allocated to open up discussions about stress and pressures faced and strategies to manage them. By allowing staff to get to know pupils well, they are in a better position to recognise any changes in behaviour or progress which may indicate that they require further support. A school counsellor is also available and children are encouraged to avail of this service. A friendly, open disposition is supportive in itself as young people will feel they have someone to turn to. It is important to recognise when to refer a child to other sources of support.…

Imagine that you are a thirteen year crying in your bed because you are dreading facing another day at school because you are being bullied. Nowadays, this is more common than ever before. For far too many teens this is a daily reality. According to the ASPCC (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) there are over 160,000 students in America who stay home from school every day because they are fearful of the mental and physical abuse from their classmates (1). The ASPCC defines bullying as a direct attack on a child’s status, sense of belonging and core identity and more times than not leads to low self-esteem (2). 1 out of 4 children are bullied every day (3). Bullying in any shape, form or fashion must be stopped so that our children can have a fighting chance.…
