What Did Edwin Hubble Discover In 1929?

1. Explain the concept behind the multiverse.
The idea that there i more than one universe. This theory could explain multiple phenoinoms.

2. What did astronomer Edwin Hubble discover in 1929?
Edwin determained that the further a galaxie is from earth the faster it apears to move away at a ever slowing speed.

3. Explain what the two teams of astronomers found in the 1990s. What question did their discovery create?
Hubble's discovery influenced the teams to find the rate at which the galexy moves away. However they instead found that the galaxys were actualy moving away at a quickening speed.
4. What is the mystery Greene discusses and why does he say it is something we should all care about?

Scientist calculated this amount and found it to be an extremly small number. The number is not found in mathmatics or physics which leaves the relavence a mystery. Being able to explain this number could mean the possibility of other universes which is why its so important.

5. Describe String Theory. What is the central idea behind it?
String theory could explain all forces at work in the universe. If you could go deeper in the particles you would find that each has a vibration and these vibrations cause diffrent types of particles.

6. Greene explains that though the Big Bang theory explains how the universe evolved, it fails to explain what actually powered the Bang. How does Greene say the Big Bang was powered and based on this theory, discuss what this means regarding the possible existence of other universes?
He says that inflatinary cosmology found a type of fuel that would generate an outward rush of space based on quantum feild.

    One of Hubble’s first discoveries was that there are other Galaxies outside of our Galaxy, the Milky Way. In the 1920s, the small, diffuse patches in the sky were termed nebulae, and were thought to exist within the Milky Way. While examining images of the galaxies, NGC 6822, M33, and M31, Hubble noticed a pulsating star known as a Cepheid variable inside each one. Cepheids are special because their pulsation allows for precise measurements of distance. Hubble calculated how far away each Cepheid lay — and thus how far to each nebula — and realized they were too distant to be inside of the Milky Way. Astronomers realized that these nebulae were in fact galaxies like the Milky Way, each containing billions of stars. The universe, once thought to be contained by the Milky Way, expanded significantly in the eyes of astronomers (Space.com, 2012). This was an amazing discovery in Astronomy and led to Hubble publishing a classification system for these galaxies.…

    Man has always had many questions regarding his surroundings. We are always curious to answer many unknowns and many will remain unanswered, but what if there was a theory that would allow us to explain at least all of nature’s forces within a single all encompassing coherent framework. What does this exactly mean? Well, explaining the universe in the most intricate and basic detail so one can stand in awe of its beauty and elegance. There is an idea floating around these days that we might have come across this unified field theory as Einstein would call it. It has been called string theory.It can explain our universe in the most basic of terms, to the most undividable element. That would mean we might be closer to examining the core of our being. Knowing the answer to that would be a giant step in our evolution. We can look forward to perhaps getting closer to answers for metaphysical questions. This now would not be the be all and end all of all knowledge, but it would explain the basic construct of everything around us. That is an astounding proposition.
