Allusion: A reference to something, it can be implied or direct. An example of allusion is seen in one of John Donne’s “Batter my heart three-personed God; for You.” Allusion is used throughout the whole sonnet.

Reflective Structure: Used to show and convey the deep thoughts of a character in all sorts of poetry. An example of a reflective structure poem is Gertrude Stein’s “Stanza Meditation: Part LXIII”

Satire: When the narrator of the poem uses humor, comedy, irony, hyperbole in order to criticize peoples stupidity. Satire is mainly used in contemporary politics. Alexander Pope shows a wonderful example of satire in his poem “The Rape of the Lock.”

Or some frail china jar receive a flaw Or stain her honor, or her new brocade.” (Ferguson 620)
Scansion: The process of finding the stresses in a poem, it also shows the meter from the distribution of stresses.
Sestet: Mostly seen in the last six lines of a Petrarchan sonnet. An example of a sestet is seen in Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “Annabel
