To me this reminds me that Jesus is my savior and I have the gift of sacrament and eternal life. This gives me peace and hope. In a world of bad news and stressful events he tells us to not be afraid, that he will take care of us ultimately. He tells us he does not give like the world; we cannot “earn his gifts”. He does not discriminate in classes or those who are more fortunate or wealthy get the wealth. He gives his gifts to all who believe. He is a caring God who wants the best of all people. We need peace. Some religions still promote hate or separation
for anyone who is different and or practice the extreme; this verse means to me that my God is a peaceful God and would not anyone to do harm to others or kill themselves on his behalf. This verse teaches me should show compassion and peace with one another and he will not let our hearts be troubles. We should teach others the word of God and that peace will be given to them. We need to be reminded to “not be afraid.
I think of God as a peaceful power in our life. I think of heaven and eternal life as a peaceful place. When Jesus died and rose and ascended into heaven, he gave us peace that he died to forgive our sins and we to would rise, not die but be given eternal live. This is not something we could gain in this earthly world on our own.
One thing that I learned in Confirmation classes, is that we should not just “know” who Jesus is, but we should truly have a relationship with him, In the movie, Luther, it showed how the people took religion and power to work in their favor. Luther was not afraid to question those people who interpreted the bible and the word only for their benefit and taught religion by “fear”. But Luther trusted God and had a relationship with him. We need to read these verses and understand what they mean to us and how they impact us to have our personal relationship with Jesus. I am thankful for having parents who have given me an opportunity to learn about God and given me faith in my life, and allowed me to study and take confirmation and learn about Jesus, God and the gifts we receive. I have then been able to grow and learn and create my own relationship with God and my understanding of the faith. I thought this was an important aspect of what I learned in this class. You don’t go to church just because you are told to. You don’t just listen to what the pastor says every Sunday and leave without understanding. You have to learn what the faith is and about your religion and if you understand it and how it impacts you, so you can have a relationship with God. You have to accept faith by the grace of the Holy Spirit for you to have true faith and a relationship with God.
