John Deere’s Steel-Tipped Plow and Cyrus McCormicks’s Mechanical Reaper – Deere invented a steel-tipped plow that halved the labor to clear acres to till. Timber for housing and fencing was available in nearby woods, and settlements spread rapidly. McCormick developed the mechanical reaper which harvested grain seven times faster than traditional methods with half the work force and guaranteed that wheat would dominate the Midwestern prairies.…
New studies and tests are showing that when it comes to music and colors our brains think more like each other then we ever knew before. When the music is high tempo and a faster pace most people relate this to a brighter yellow color, but when the music is a little darker and slower they relate to a grayish-bluish hue. “So Mozart's jaunty Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major tends to be associated with bright yellow and orange, whereas his dour Requiem in D minor is more likely to be linked to dark, bluish gray.” It is amazing to see the kinds of discoveries they are able to make my just simple recognition.…
Leadership has been important throughout human history. But why is leadership makes it so important? There are many answers to that question. First of all, mankind has always needed leaders. Without leaders, this world would not be able to function properly. Second, leaders have an influence on people, may it be good or bad. The choices that a leader makes can leave an impact on people to do something that the said leader believes in. Third, leaders have a big impact on the outcome of the future of society. The leader could decide to choose a way to settle a matter, whether it is good or bad, and those choices could lead to either the destruction or growth of a nation.…
Leadership will help people to develop the ability to work as a team or group to achieve the common goals. It helps people to cultivate the good qualities to become a excellent leader.…
Leadership is defined as “a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” (Northouse, 2007). Managers, supervisors, and team leads are given the authority to accomplish certain tasks and objectives, however this power does not make a person a leader. This assigned authority only means that this person is “the boss.” Leadership differs in that it makes the followers want to achieve goals rather than bossing people around (Rowe, 2007). In other words, one can be assigned to a leadership position but one without such designated title can be a leader by influencing others to do great things.…
“The very essence of leadership is its purpose. And the purpose of leadership is to accomplish a task. That is what leadership does-and what it does is more important than what it is or how it works.” This quote by Colonel Dandridge M. Malone, shows that leadership needs to be focused on what it accomplishes instead of just being leadership for leadership’s sake. To me, a leader is simply someone who has a mind of their own; someone who sets their own path instead of following another’s.…
Huber (2010) states “leadership is defined as the process of influencing people to accomplish goals.”…
If leaders don’t set by example who knows what will happen to this world. These are some of the reasons why Leadership is important…
Leadership is defined as influencing people to achieve a purpose or set of goals, but differentiating it from management causes confusion in many instances (Tappen, Weiss and Whitehead, 2004; Senior and Fleming, 2006; Robbins, Judge and Sanghi, 2009). Leaders can be managers but not all managers can be effective leaders, making leadership an important aspect of effective management (Tappen, Weiss and Whitehead, 2004).…
In my opinion, leadership is more than just someone who can enlist the aid of others to accomplish a specific task. It is a characteristic and a lifestyle of a person. True leadership is not displayed on days we feel like it. It is a constant display of ones actions to accomplish tasks and set an example for others to emulate. A leader is someone who can be turned to in the absence of knowledge or direction and will either have the answer or know where to get the answer.…
As Covey wrote it: “I believe the most important attribute for a leader is being principle-centered. Centering on principles that are universal and timeless provides a foundation and compass to guide every decision and every act. I've based…
The success or failure of any endeavor depends on leadership. Now, more than ever before, we need leaders in our organizations and in our world. Great leaders create and communicate a vision and move people into action to achieve it. They ignite our passion and inspire us to do our best.…
As I mention in our week one discussion under, my personal best leadership experience, witnessing the Officer in Charge of a small boat station removing his own coxswain pin off his tropical blue shirt and handling it over to the young BM3 receiving his first coxswain pin. Events such as that were like watching the torch being passed as the tradition continues. And inspired me to recognize a member’s accomplishment that he or she so hard to acquire.…
A Few Reminders from Last Month: One of the most significant strengths of an effective leader is the ability to create a positive work climate. In an outstanding organizational climate, people are energized to do their best work, free of unnecessary distractions. Climates that energize workers to produce their very best can improve results by as much as 30 percent. What’s New This Month: Up to 70 percent of an employee’s perception of organizational climate can be traced directly to the actions of you as the organization’s leader. More than anyone else, you as the boss create the conditions that determine people’s ability to work well. Research by David McClelland on leadership has identified “styles” of leadership that provide not only a roadmap for leading but also implications for action.…
Leadership in groups or team is the most important task for teams to be successful. Leaders direct the team, provides a mission and a goal for the team to follow and a time frame for completing assignments. In order for any team to succeed there must be a development training plan to follow to ensure that the team is working to the best of there ability.…
