Leadership will help people to develop the ability to work as a team or group to achieve the common goals. It helps people to cultivate the good qualities to become a excellent leader.

Chapter 1-Northouse-Introduction

Why does the word “leadership” have a variety of definitions?
Leadership scholars cannot come up with a common definition for leadership. Because of such factors as growing global influences and generational differences, leadership will continue to have different meanings for different people.
What is the definition of leadership used in the Northouse text? What are the four key elements in this definition?
A process whereby and individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.
What is the general definition of power in leadership?
The capacity or potential to influence.
What are the five based of social power identified by French and Raven? What do they mean?
Referent:(F对L喜爱的拥护)Followers’ identification and liking for the leader.
Expert:( F对L专业实力的臣服)Follower perception of leader’s competence.
Legitimate:(法官)The people who have status or formal job authority.
Reward: (奖励)provide rewards to others.
Coercive:(惩罚)Penalize or punish others.
