freedom from an empire and a king that didn’t care of the people. The bolivar family was wealthy; therefore, Simon was born with every acomodations and luxuries that anyone could ask for including personal teachers the movie just show one of them called Simon Rodriguez who started influencing Simon Bolivar since an early age in the rebolutionary ideology and it is show in the movie when Bolivar come back from Spain with his new wife Maria Teresa Rodriguez del Toro y Alaysa that Simon Rodriguez is scaping of the Spanish military. Simon Bolivar after the dead of his wife move to Paris where he spended two years enrolled in parties and alcohol and after reunited to his former teacher Simon Rodriguez who convings him in participating in the fisrts intent of Venezuelan rebolution agains Spain with General Francisco Miranda as a leader and Bolivar as a fighter and an investor.
This is the first look in the movie about the rebolition movement and politics that happens in war, in South America people was already separated which made it more difficult for a war against Spanish forces with white Creoles, brown, Indians, and blacks and all of them hating each other. The first battles and the first detitions made by the general in the rebolution show a not prepared ideology that wasn’t strong enough nor prepared enough winning a couple battles losing many life, but just making a scratch in what was considered the biggest military force of the time, this made the general Francisco Miranda to made a surrender letter that Simon Bolivar found and accousing him of treason against the Venezuelan Republic which wasn’t instituted yet. When Bolivar try to give Franisco de Mirando to the Spanish General Monteverde arrested him too and exiled him to the Cartagena’s jungle after taking his properties and riches.
Simon Bolivar at the beginning thought of freedom and independence only for Venezuela, but in the Cartagena’s jungles full exiled people from around the continent he understood that “the true freedom of the man is to be free” and in the Caratgena’s jungles started the true and the strong South American independence with Bolivar at its head and Indians with bow and arrows winning many battles agains the Spanish domains in Caratagena with an attack suprice as their main strategy that took many attention from the Cartagena’s government which authorized Francisco de Paula Santanger to support Simon Bolivar in their fight.
However, Bolivar wanted to take the fight to Venezuela which was against Santander orders go beyond the border in which Bolivar gave a speech to Sanatander’s mens explaining is just a river. This point of view is one that strike me the must not just for Bolivar speech, but for the ideology that borders separating countries, separating land, separting people when in reality its nothing that really make of different but ourself been just a river, an ocean, a wall ,or a line is just something that try to divide of when we should unite and fight …show more content…
together.
After conquered Caracas the king of Spain send the biggest feet ever send to America and Bolivar had no option to evacuate the people and to flee to Jamaica and after getting in touch with Martin Torkington, he comes back to Venezuela and started uniting the people starting with Angostura after that Jose Antonio Paez joined him, and them the Irish brigate joined him to fight for the Republic of “La Gran Colombia” “The Great Colombia” which was the first time that an foreing force came to South America to free the people and not to conquered them.
At first I didn’t understood why an Irish brigate would come and help the independence of Venezuela, but then I realize it wasn’t for Venezuela it was for the continent independence and if the Irish helped the rebolution to succed they wouldn’t had to deal with Spanish and had an alliance with the free Republic of Great Colombia and the entire South American continent which is a smart move not just because they wouldn’t have to deal with Spain, but because they would be allied with the entire continent which will be just starting to become an orginized government; therefore, will be easier for them to get resources and to open trade route in the
continent.
Bolivar planed to attack Bogota which was the capital of the Spanish crown by surprise going through The Andes in mid-winter where was a long distance taking months without having the proper clothes for the people making it a cause of many deaths which is a good military strategy to surprise Spain and attack them in their capital; howeer, it is a difficult choice because the people will be sick and tired before they even fight againts the Spanish armada. In a surprising event after they crossed The Andes they re-united to Santander and Cargena’s military force to fight and conquered Bogota city. The main goal of the Rebolutionary army was to conquer the Boyaca bridge against more than 5000 spanish men because whoever control the bridge controls Bogota and who ever control Bogota controls the entire continent. This rebolutionary army was made of women, children, and man of any race, ethnicity, and South American Nationality fighting for their wish of been independent of the Empire. Thinking that children fought and died really concerned me at first, then I realize that they fought and die for a freedom that wouldn’t get any other way. It is not fair that children had to die, but I understand it because I would have do it too and just imagine that they didn’t have the experience and training that Spanish solder had and did it anyways and fought and won against them giving blood, sweat, and their lives just with the ideology that Simon Bolivar cultivated in their heads that freedom is something that every man, women and children deserves and that it not freedom when you are oppress by something or someone chousing how to live you own life inspiring more and more people after this victory that joined to their fight .
In a party Bolivar meet a woman called Manuela Saenz who told him that his generals except for Sucre and Urdaneta don’t share his Idea of a United South America, but that they want to govern their own provinces. This gave me a little bit of cold sweat because to imagine that people fighting besides you lie to your face and that they are fighting not for an ideology of bringing everyone together, but to split it one more time. I believe that Bolivar was in a hard choice because you cannot have someone you don’t trust so chouse to your military power, but he need it the troops and also he believed in democracy and the people where the ones chousing the lieders.
The war lasted for 15 years and after the grown of the Republic of The Great Colombia Simon Bolivar was choosed to be the first president and the house of congress in Bogota Bolivar is discosing with his vice-president Francisco de Paula Santander about the separation of provinces because of the fear that this union will put too much pressure on one president; therefore, changing a king for a dictator. I understand and agree that the preassure is too much for just one man and that could make it a dictatiorship which is just has bad as a kingdom. However, I am a strong veliever that the provinces should have had stayed together, maybe finding another way of government. We have to remember that they where in a position that they still recovering from a war and are bulding a government and a country from the ground up; for this reason, they had to stay has a government stablish to show the people they are protected and they are not alone. In my opinion they should have work in keeping the provinces together spreending the responsabilities of a president between diferent representative choosed by the people.
The politics at this moment should had been increadible hard because they didn’t even have an economy system yet. Bolivar even had a British proposal to put the first bank in Colombia, to which the president explains that with a new country’s economy and a emerging country this would had mean the British would control the financial economy which to Bolivar this was another type of invation an refused. This is one of the strongest moment of leadership in my opinion because they fought to be independent for they to begin a contry for their people with everything on it to be from the people itself.
