The first moment of visits happened between June and November 2015. In the second moment, interviews began in November 2016 and ended in January 2017.
In both moments, visits were scheduled by phone and the family picked the most convenient date and hour for the interview. Two families chose to be interviewed in the institutions where they were first approached, whereas the remaining interviews were conducted at the families’ homes.
Both visits were structured in four moments:

Data presentation and analysis
4.1 Devices used by the family
In both moments, it was verified that children enjoy technologies greatly. When they play, they do it with relish, being completely immersed in the activity.
More present devices, besides the television, are smartphones, tablets, and laptops. From one year to the next, the main changes were related to some devices that had broken in between, like Vicente’s [PT1b8] PlayStation, Joaquim’s [PT4b3] tablet, or Ana [PT9g8] and Laura’s [PT10g7] tablet. Concerning new devices, it was verified the replacement of tablets, like Vincente’s [PT1b8], Mateus’ [PT6b8], and Ana’s [PT9g8]. New tablets were more powerful regarding processing level.
Parents who do not have favorable perceptions about technologies did not replace their children’s broken devices. However, other family members ended up doing it, as Vicente’s [PT1b8] grandfather and Mateus’ [PT6b8] father, who had already bought the first ones against the mothers’ wishes. Some children that received new tablets, like Mateus [PT6b8] and Ana [PT9g8] have parents with positive perceptions regarding the usage of technologies by the kids.
