What Is Celie's Struggles In The Color Purple

I chose the movie The Color Purple because the story is centered on the life of African-American women, who experienced issues with family bonding. This young lady was faced with many hardship and struggles that began in the home with her family. The storyline behind how this young girl was sexually and mentally abused by her father. The abuse continued later on when she was forced to marry an older man with young children of his own. Throughout her struggles with self-worth and her own identity, she developed to become a very strong women. Celie, the young girl voiced her struggles in the movie through written letters she wrote to God and letters written to her by her sister.
The movie instantly began with Celie being sexually abused by her
Nettie was very attractive and smart. Nettie went to school while Celie stay home to cook and clean. One day a man came to Pa asking to marry Nettie because he needed someone to help tend to his kids. Pa told the man that he couldn’t have Nettie but he could have Celie. Being that she wasn’t that attractive, the man said he never paid her any attention and asked to see her again. Pa quickly stated that Celie is not a looker but she could take care of his children, be a maid, and also work for him in his field. Celie was sold to the man. She was pleased to get away from Pa, so she could take Nettie with her to get away for Pa. The man married Celie and the beatings came almost instantaneously after Celie spoke out of turn to him. He told Celie not to talk unless he tell her to do so. Celie was so afraid of “the man” who is now her husband and she begin referring to him as Mister. Secretly, Nettie began teaching Celie how to read and write. Nettie was walking to school Mister began making sexual advances towards her. Nettie fought him off and ran back to the house with Celie. Mister returned home and kicked Nettie out demanding that she never return. Nettie promised to write Celie
