What is Critical Thinking?
Critical thinking can be viewed as the intellectual processing of information or situations to reach the point of clarity. It is pervasive and is seen as vital to any developed life since it entails ‘reasonable, reflective thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe and do (Ennis, 1987, p. 10).
Humans by nature are thinkers striving to understand the world. With critical thinking tools, humans are able to develop technology, machinery, diverse forms of travel, cleansing water, and processing food. All of these advances were once ideas, figments of imagination. By thinking, them through they have become useful realities. Just as a seed is planted and then watered in order to make it grow and produce fruit. An idea can only flourish from the process of critical thinking.
Critical thinking is the greatest asset anyone can develop. Solving math problems, writing essays, making scientific discoveries, and exploring the stars would not be possible without the use of critical thinking. Critical thinking is at the core of one’s creative drive, without it ideas would just be ideas; nothing would be developed or advanced. The way people make life and the tasks embarked comprehensible is through the critical thinking process. This tool has brought clarity to the human existence. With the use of critical thinking skills, humans will continue to grow past the stars.
