Raëlism is a lesser known cult which is active in several countries, including the United States. The atheistic religious movement, which began in 1973, when Claude Vorilhon claimed he was abducted by aliens called, Elohim. During the abduction, the Elohim gave him a new name, Rael, and directed him to act as their prophet. According to Rael, the Elohim with whom he experienced contact was called, Yahweh. (Ironically, this is also the Hebrew word for God.) Rael made his revelations public for the first time in September of 1974.

Rael claims they're only 8,400 individuals worthy enough to exist on Earth at this time in history. The rest of humanity will not be given eternal life, and will simply die unless they become part Raëlism and experience enlightenment.
Indoctrination
To become a Realian, one must perform an Act of Apostasy, meaning complete denial of all theistic affiliations, beliefs, and associations. Following this first step, the individual participates in a baptism, which in known as the Transmission of the Cellular Plan. It is a ritual believed to communicate the new Realian’s DNA information to an Elohim extraterrestrial computer which is kept on a spaceship.
Followers are currently building an embassy to welcome the aliens back to earth. The cult has been compared to Scientology and operates in some similar ways. They need money from followers and often seek out wealthy individuals that can be indoctrinated.
