At such a young age every little thing scared me. When the ride began, I snuggled right up to my dad because the darkness scared me. I didn’t know what was going to pop out and scare me. As the music began to get faster, so did the ride. It pushed me side to side, then out of nowhere there was the big hill. As we were going down this gigantic hill, I could start to see the light. Seeing the light again, I knew the ride was over. The ride was similar to the Peer’s adventure. I was scared of the piece in a whole different way. Instead of being scared of the trolls or darkness, I was scared that my notes not being staccato enough. It was also my first year that I got accepted into the Mid Maine Youth Orchestra. At the time, I was still learning how to tune very high notes. In the Hall of the Mountain King on the clarinet has very high notes. The first couple rehearsals I was squeaking like crazy. I wanted to learn to control the high notes, so I practiced and practiced until the squeaking went away. Not only was squeaking a problem, but rushing was my worst enemy. I got a little stressed out that it kept getting faster that I went too fast. I had to learn to watch the conductor to keep a steady tempo.
If I had to rate the Hall of the Mountain King, I would rate it a 3 out of 10, with 10 being the best. I didn’t really like this piece. Only being 2.42 seconds, I feel this piece was way too short. It was also very repetitive. It was the same this over and over. The only thing I heard was the same melody repeating itself and gradually getting faster and louder. If the piece had something new, like added a different verse or had harmonies in it, I probably would have liked it
