What Is J. B Hunt Transport Services?
J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. is a publicly held trucking and transportation company. J.B. Hunt view themselves as “one of the largest surface transportation, delivery, and logistic companies in North America” (10-k, 2). As a company as a whole, they are responsible for providing their customers with “safe and reliable transportation and delivery services” (10-k, 2). In order to complete this task on a daily basis, J.B. Hunt is broken up into four different segments, each segment having their own particular tasks.
The first segment is known as the JBI business segment. JBI is responsible for providing intermodal services for customers by making arrangements with most companies in the railroad industry, specifically forming a partnership

DCS focuses primarily on the supply chain, which is the sequence that takes place when moving a product from the supplier to the customer. More specifically, DCS specializes in managing the supply chain to make sure it is as efficient as possible by focusing on the design, development, and the execution (10-k, 4). Some of their typical services include the management private fleets, replenishment in order to keep inventory flowing through the supply chain, maintaining specialized equipment, and the movement of goods from the last stop directly to the customer. All of these responsibilities are governed by long-term contracts with their customers that range from three to ten years long (10-k, 4). As of the end of 2015, DCS were responsible for operating 6,762 company-owned trucks, 436 customer-owned trucks, ten trucks owned by independent contractors, 15,020 pieces of trailing equipment and 6,652 trailers owned by customers. Hunt is the JBT segment. JBT is where the typical day-to-day deliveries on the road and highways take place. JBT employees or independent contractors will pick up the freight at the dock or whatever location the customer indicates and they will transport it directly to the recipient of the goods. The services in JBT are typically either full-load or dry-van freight and they are all transported using company-owned trailers, even if an independent contractor is the one transporting the goods (10-k, 4). As of the end of 2015, JBT operated a total of 1,462 company-owned tractors and had a total of 1,847 employees with 1,615 of them being drivers.
