Beliefs about people: As a nurse caring for people is my primary job. I believe that all people who I care for present an opportunity to help them improve their life. I believe that people are generally at their worst when I come in contact with them. Most people who are admitted to the hospital are in pain, trying to heal and may be scared. In all of these situations, they are not at their best. I believe that showing compassion during these times helps people to heal faster. Including a patient in the healing process is also very important to healing. I feel that by including the patient and showing compassion is a vital part of being an excellent RN.

I believe that the environment in which I encounter patients strongly impacts their experience. As a nurse working in a hospital, I believe that the patient looks to us for kindness, education, answers, pain relief and understanding. The environment I work in allows me to adequately or inadequately address the task at hand. Environment also plays a role for each individual patient. Environment creates each persons’ frame of reference which will impact perspective and belief systems.
