What Is My Role As A Noncommissioned Officer
Leadership, as defined by Army doctrine, is “the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization” (ADP 6-22, pp. 1). To be a successful leader requires one to utilize the full spectrum of competencies. As a noncommissioned officer, it is my job to get the mission done. The fastest way to do that is to provide the purpose, direction, and motivation to get it done. I do my job by training my section, completing the mission as assigned, and providing outstanding support to the commander or adjutant I work for. As an NCO, my job is to translate the commander’s guidance into action from my Soldiers, by training them. I have to make sure we meet commander’s intent, whether the commander directs the task or simply implies it. As the NCO, it is my responsibility to ensure my Soldiers clearly understand the commander’s intent, and show them how to get there. All of this effort falls into my domain as the NCO and as the trainer of my section. As a shepherd of the …show more content…
That means that there is no time to rest while a Soldier who my section supports is in need of personnel service support. From the most mundane to the most critical human resource task, I will stand ready to do my part of the warfight, and I expect my Soldiers to join me in that duty. There will be times the human resources section must put creature comforts on hold. It could be so that a Soldier can go home on emergency leave, or it could be to finalize a critical report to higher headquarters. My section and I will do everything we can to support those missions. While we may have to work harder at times, my intent is to ensure Soldiers assigned to the section have ample time to maintain their personal relationships and individual
