Marty, the youngest son of Sonson Natalegawa and Siti Komariyah was born on 22 March 1963 in Bandung, West Java. Marty’s father was a former director of a state-owned bank. At the age of 9, Marty Natalegawa went to Singapore International School (SIS) after he was graduated from Kris Elementary School in 1974. After he finished his studies in SIS, he was sent to Ellesmere College and Concord College in United Kingdom from 1976 to 1981. He obtained his Bachelor Degree at London School of Economics (LSE) and Political Science in 1984. Then, he went to continue his studies at Corpus Christi College University of Cambridge in 1985 where he was awarded a Master of Philosophy in International Relations. In 1993, Marty also obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in International Relation from Australian National University.
