The Jacob’s Ladder (aka Climbing Arc) goes way back to the early 1900’s no one really knows who invented it but one theory is Nikola Tesla. The Jacob’s Ladder is said to have gained fame in 1931 after the film production “Frankenstein”. The date that the Jacob’s Ladder was invented is also unknown. Also there are no patents leading to anyone who could have created it. Though people have found that it was probably created in the early 20th century.
The Science behind the Jacob’s Ladder is pretty simple. When you turn it the transformer creates an electrical current which is made up of electrons. After you turn it on the electrical current flows onto one of the wires, but …show more content…
First, I screwed a neon transformer down onto a piece of oak. The transformer puts out 12,000 volts and 30 milliamps of electricity. Second, I mounted the steel rods to the piece of oak. Then, I wired the two steel rods to the power supply. After that I attached a cord to the other side of the transformer to connect to a power source. Lastly, I bent the wires into a V shape so the current will run up the rods. The materials were a neon sign transformer, 2 ⅛ inch diameter steel rod, 1 power cord, 7 wire terminals, 2 10 inch pieces of copper wire, 2 mounting brackets, and a 9x20.5 inch piece of oak.
