The government trouble deciding where to place the memorial. The section west of the Potomac river was open, but that section was to swampy and inaccessible. Other placement recommendation included Union Station. However, the commission decided to keep their
location. They thought that the Potomac park was ideal.
In 1904, Congress gave &300,000 to help build the memorial. The memorial was, as stated before, finished in 1922. Some important national people figures were President Harding, commission director Howard Taft, and Robert Todd Lincoln, who, at the time, was 78 years old. The Lincoln Memorial is a very old and magnificent place that will be here for future generations to come.
