Being born in the early 1900s, it was not common for a woman, especially an African american woman, to be out in the real world making an impact. Like Howard Roark, she had her own path that she wanted to follow. She didn’t want to be an ordinary housewife cleaning day and night. She wanted to show women that you don’t just have to stay in the house. But of course, the road she took was very narrow. Roark’s and Katherine’s mindset was not common during their time. “... They stood alone against men their times…” ~ Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead. That statement is true indeed because during the 1900s, nobody wanted an African american making a momentous everlasting impact that would affect the whole nation. And the people in The Fountainhead wanted Roark to become an architect that designs edifices with a classical structure. Yet, Katherine and Roark did not want to conform to the normality of the world. And despite the criticism and negativity that occurred throughout the nation, the brave individuals continued to pursue their dreams. Perseverance and determination are excellent attributes that one truly admires about them. One feels that those qualities are crucial if someone wants to something in life.
