What Is The Mood Of The Poem It's Funny By Juliet Levin
In the poem “It’s Funny,” by Juliet Levin (poetrysoup.com) the narrator is struggling with betrayal from the people he/she cares about. The point of view is first person, I say this because the word “we” is used a lot throughout it, the tone is hurt, I think this because he/she cries and hurts about things that they don’t benefit from. Juliet Levin uses symbolism in this text to represent forgiveness and how it can make us weak in times of hardships.
The first, example of symbolism in this poem is in stanza one it’s, “We’d take a bullet for the person standing behind the trigger,”. It means that we’d sacrifice anything for those we love and, that there are certain people in our lives who we care about no matter what stupid things they do, the message is affected by this because it shows that we care for and forgive certain people in life. This helped me realize that even if you are mad at someone they probably have an explanation for whatever it is you’re mad at them about.

This means that we care about those who ignore us and ignore the ones who care for us and, at some point in life you will care about someone who does not feel the same way about you, the meaning and theme were affected because it shows that even those you care about can betray or, leave you. This has helped me realize that if someone leaves your life, they probably never intended to stay in the first place.
The third, and final, example of symbolism is in stanza five it’s, “How we’d lose ourselves for someone who is forever lost,”. I think this means that we’d change who we are for someone we miss but, we know it won’t help, the message and theme were impacted by this because, it shows that someone they care about left them. It makes me realize that there are people we will miss in life and, it’s going to be hard but, you can get through

The first symbol being the side kick, which symbolizes a child. The second is a hero, which symbolizes a parent. At the end of the poem it talks about how side kicks remind us of a part of ourselves that is like a child, never wanting to grow up and always wanting to look up to our hero’s (parents) for help and guidance. The poem also talks about how a side kicks’ outward appearance is not perfect like a hero’s, but they don’t care or get jealous of a hero because they look up to them for support or guidance. It talks about a side kick being sad because the best of ourselves (hero’s) lowered into the ground (funeral), tears pouring off that enormous nose (sad for the…

The first example of symbolism that Tobias Wolff gives us is the setting of the story. Implied by the stories title the setting is a snowy forest. The snow, being so cold, is symbolic of the cold relationship that the three hunters; Tub, Frank and Kenny all share with each other. Frank and Tub, once used to be very close, but Frank now has a more close relationship with Kenny but even that friendship is not without its taunting and antagonizing. This is made clear when after Frank tells Kenny that he talks to much, Kenny Says “I won't say a word. Like I won't say…

An example for symbolism in this poem would be “O, let America be America again— The land that never has been yet.” Here, the author states that we need to allow America to be what it was built to be, but he is symbolizing that to this day, the people have never let the land truly be the American dream.…

One symbol that is in the book is, Linda. Linda was O’Brien’s first love. After she died, his day dreams provided him images of her which made him just miss her more and feel more alone. For example, in the story it states, “Nothing much came to me. I remember closing my eyes and whispering her name, almost begging, trying to make her come back. ‘Linda,’ I said, ‘please.’ And then I concentrated. I willed her alive. It was a dream, I suppose, or a day dream, but I made it happen. I saw her coming down the middle of the Main Street, all alone,” (O’ Brien 237). This is an example because he missed her so much and it shows that character that he is and was when her was with her. From this quote, it shows that Linda is the symbol for O’ Brien. Later, in the chapter of The Lives of The Dead, it states, "Dead, I said, Linda smiled it was a secret smile, as if she knew things nobody could ever know, and she reached out and touched my wrist and said, 'Timmy, stop crying. It doesn’t matter,’ " (O’ Brien 238). This is an example of symbolism because while O'Brien was talking about the story of Linda, his elementary school sweetheart whom he was in love with, who died from a brain tumor. However, remembering and repeating the stories she once told she died with a senseless death like all the other soldiers in Vietnam, as he tries to revive some sense into his own personal life. She is a symbol because she…

In conclusion, the literal meaning of the entire poem is a basic warning for a storm. On the other hand, metaphorical meaning is a storm inside a heart, a storm of past. The organization and the concrete details help us figure out the hidden meaning in the poem, where the mood is pretty dull. "This is our sole defense against…

    Hard To Find Symbolism

Symbolism was found many times throughout the story. The first time I came around symbolism was when the family was talking about Toomsboro. Toomsboro sounds a lot like tomb so that symbolizes the eventual fate the family will soon meet. The next symbolism I found was when The Misfit’s car was going down the road towards the disoriented family. The car was described as “big black battered hearse-like automobile (145).” The reason that this is symbolism is because a hearse is what carries coffins to funerals. The Misfit’s car represents the intimate death that the family will soon meet. Lastly, the final symbolism is the cloudless, sunless sky. Most people would think that a day with no clouds would be a beautiful, happy day filled with fun; however, this family in the story thought that but it turned out to be their worst day. Usually when a murder takes place it happens at night when it is dark and no one is around. This murder happened on a beautiful day, but the main reason I brought up this is because when The Misfit shot the Grandmother, she feel back looking up towards the beautiful sky with a smile on her face. This symbol represents that the Grandmother found inner peace with herself.…

The theme of the poem is illustrated throughout but is identifiable in the middle with the words used to create imagery, “I touch the name Andrew Johnson; I see the booby traps white flash.”(17-18) The author also uses imagery to show that the conflict had affected whites and blacks alike and had in some ways joined them as simply brothers in arms. “A white vet’s image floats closer to me, then his pale eyes look through mine. I am a window.” (25-27) The author uses these lines to show the reader that white or black they can both look back and reflect on the hells of war and relate to one another.…
