Lanyon’s death, Mr. Lanyon wrote a letter for Mr. Utterson to open after he and Dr. Jekyll die. Mr. Lanyon writes that after he attended Jekyll’s dinner party, he received a strange letter from Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Jekyll was asking Mr. Lanyon to break into his laboratory. Once he was in the laboratory, he was instructed to remove a specific drawer and all the belongings in it. Then take the drawer back to his own house where he should wait for a man to come at precisely midnight. Dr. Jekyll did not give an explanation, but if Mr. Lanyon followed the instructions correctly, he would be able to understand everything. Mr. Lanyon writes that he followed his instructions. Inside the drawer were many vials, a notebook, and little notations. He thought Mr. Jekyll was insane. The man that came to his house was Mr. Hyde. He had never seen Mr. Hyde before and did not recognize him. Mr. Hyde asked for a graduated glass where he mixed all the chemicals. Mr. Hyde asked whether he should drink the potion in front of him or leave to drink it. Unaware of the effects and already being involved, Mr. Lanyon wanted to see the end of it. As Mr. Hyde drank the potion, his body started to expand and his face was changing. Suddenly, Mr. Hyde was gone, but in his place was Dr. Jekyll. Mr. Lanyon wrote that he was so shocked from the transformation that he will soon die. As Mr. Utterson is reading this letter, two secrets are revealed. First, the secret that Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll are really one person. Second, he discovers the real reason Mr. Lanyon
