One of his experiments conducted on patients was the incendiary bomb experiment. In this experiment severe burns were inflicted on the patients in the from a bomb that exploded using phosphorous matter. The mustard gas experiment was used on injuries that patients suffered to test the effects of it’s “healing”. Mustard gas is a chemical that causes severe burning of the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. It can be taken into the body in many ways, and resulted in many deaths and serious injuries. Yet another experiment doctor Mengele conducted was the spotted fever experiment. Patients were deliberately infected with spotted fever disease and they kept the disease alive among many so around ninety victims died. Dr. Mengele’s cruel experiments demonstrate that the Nazis not only did not care about the genocide of a whole race, but also that they did not realize what they did was incredibly wrong. They never acknowledged the severity of wrong they did. Dr. Mengele striped many aunts, mother's, father, brothers, sisters, uncles, and cousins form an overwhelming amount of Jews. One of these people who fled include Dr. Mengele who left Auschwitz disguised as a member of the regular German infantry. He was later liberated on February 11, 1945 from a work camp at the Gross-Rossen. He was then captured as a prisoner of war and held near Munich, Germany. He was released by the allies who had no idea that he was in their midst. Josef then fled to South America and avoided bounties on him. Officials have confirmed that many years later that he died in 1979 under a different name and identity after supposedly he had suffered a stroke during a swim and drowned. Unfortunately Dr. Mengele was not punished for his war crimes. He somehow got away and lived a new life in South America which angers many people till this day.
