Had he only known the peril he would face after today, he would not have walked with such a spring in his step. The day started off like any normal day, and by lunchtime Trevor was covered in ink stains and scraps of paper. Scuttling to the cafeteria, Trevor kept his eyes averted and joined the throngs of workers in line. After taking his bowl and utensils, Trevor accepted his meager portions of bread and stew. They didn’t starve you here, but they didn’t treat you to a feast either. After gobbling down his lunch, Trevor headed to his bosses office. He needed to get the new files. When he approached the door, he quieted down and prepared to knock. As he lifted his arm to knock, he hesitated when he heard snippets of a conversation. Words like security, notebook, attack, weapon, and secret peppered the air. Stepping away from the door, Trevor’s mind was whirring. “This could be big!” he thought. He needed to get his hands on whatever these men were talking about. Trevor had become so wrapped up in his plans that he stopped paying attention to his surroundings. Breathing fast, he reviewed his options. He came to the conclusion that he needed to search Petrov’s office tonight, Whatever he learned would need to be immediately taken to his superiors. Trevor spent the rest of his day in a heightened state of anxiety. When nightfall finally came, Trevor was ready to search the office.
