The Cay is a book by the author Theodore Taylor. The book talks about the times of racism in which a black man and a white boy work together to survive lost at sea. They had many arguments until the boy (Philip) went blind and soon became best friends. Before Phlip was blind he hated the black man because he was “blind” from his character traits and only focused on his outside appearance. On page 31, Philip called him a negro and said he was ugly and terrifying. Little did he know the man was kind and gentle person.
Later in the story Philip goes blind and cant see. They eventually land on an island and make shelter and rescue fire. Days go by and the relationship between them was getting better and they started to really understand each other.
