First of all, I will be talking about stereotypes (a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing) and the character I chose is Gracey because when Gracey was told that she could go to Brisbane for state level championship and they have to pay nothing to go there. Also the first day all the white and black kids were celebrating and the next day they were separate and complaining that Gracey goes to Brisbane for free. This quote proves what I mean. ‘‘That blacks get things for nothing that everyone else has to work hard for ‘’ (p20). …show more content…
Now lets talk about Relationship between black people and white people, the character I chose is ‘’Gracey’’ because in this book Gracey needs to face a lot of difficulties and she is a kind of the person who gets teased about it.
She doesn’t care what people say to her and not to say, but luckily her mum cares even though see is going through all of her difficulties. I am going to support this argument by a quote. “Do you want us to come watch you in Brisbane, Gracey?” Mum asked. “What if I come last?” said
Gracey
Mum stretched out her arm round Gracey’s shoulders and hugged her close for a second and said, “You won't come last” (page 17).
The final theme I will be talking about is Racism the most important element in this book because this book is mainly about black and white people communities together in small fictional town near Cunningham. The person I would be talking about Racism today is ‘’Johnny Warren”. Johnny Warren is a guy who lives with Dougy and other Aboriginal people in town. The reason I chose this character is because Johnny Warren is a guy who gets angry and overreacts with violence and feels that black people have more advantage. I am going to support this theme by a quote. -Years ago, before I was born, the Government bought a whole lot of houses in one street, cause people were leaving to go and live somewhere else.
Mostly blacks like us live in those houses now. Quote from chapter two, page 9. The second character who also faced lots of difficulties is Dougy he also gets teased about his colour and other things. Even by his teacher this quote will prove it
-I've always been skinny, specially my arms and legs. A teacher once called me a bag of bones when he was mad at me. Quote from chapter two, page 10.
I strongly feel that James Moloney wrote this book because he was trying to tell that there is lot of Stereotypes in their community, and no matter what colour you are everyone should be treated equally. James Moloney has made so
