Richard J. Foster’s, Celebration Of Discipline, is as many who have read his book would say, a rare gift. In this book, Foster guides his readers on how to effectively understand the essential twelve spiritual disciplines to have a closer and more intimate relationship with God. He does so by breaking the twelve disciplines into three sections; inward disciplines, outward disciplines, and corporate disciplines. The inward disciplines can be expressed as studying, prayer, fasting, and meditation. The ultimate goal of inward disciplines is a personal and spiritual transformation of one’s self.
