What Is Wal-Mart's Discrimination?
The one of biggest retail in the world store is Wal-Mart which is founded by Sam Walton in 1962 and incorporated on October 31, 1969. Wal-Mart is American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores. According to Fortune Global 500 list in 2014, Wal-Mart is the world’s largest company by revenue and biggest private employer in the world with 2.2 million employees. As of March 31, 2016, Wal-Mart has 11,527 stores and clubs in 28 countries. Wal-Mart remains a family-owned business, as the company is controlled by the Walton Family, who own over 50 percent of Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart Store is the one of largest public corporation around the world, they also face the company problem which is the class action lawsuit claiming the company discriminated against female employees became the big issue in the Wal-Mart. Essentially, there are many main reasons why the discrimination on women happened. But they are two main reasons of discrimination that happened in the working environment, which women may have less education or less working experience than men. Therefore, women may not equally qualify compared to men qualifications to take the job. The other reason is that they may face discrimination which is because the ability and skill are difference from men and women. Furthermore, the physical energy can be the factor of discrimination of women. Therefore, the discrimination will lead to conflict in the corporation and also against the individual right. …show more content…
The Wal-Mart case in the lawsuit, it is claimed that Wal-Mart pays women less than men even when the women have the same amount of experience, earnings differences between men and women at Wal-Mart grow wider over time, Wal-Mart does not offer equal training opportunities to its women employees and that Wal-Mart refuses to post all management openings, thus limiting women's opportunities to apply for management

    The article “Up Against Wal-Mart” by Karen Olsson is the detailed explanation of how Wal-Mart treats their customers and more importantly how the million dollar company treats their employees. Olson kicks off the article by telling a story about Jennifer McLaughlin, who is a twenty-two year old Wal-Mart employee. She goes on to explain the daily work tasks that she completes. In ten separate cases, Nation Labor Relations Board has ruled that Wal-Mart repeatedly broke the law by interrogation of workers, confiscating union literature, and firing union supporters (Olsson). The issue of creating a union was not the only concern of the Wal-Mart workers. They also were concerned with how they would pay for health insurance. In Jennifer’s case, for her to have Wal-Mart covered health insurance it would cost her a $85 dollar chunk out of her pay check. The work force does not understand how a company that is account for 2 percent of America’s domestic product and has had 200 billion dollars in sales cannot give their hard working employees good health insurance.     I decided to research the competing stores of Walmart and Target. Sam Walton opened his first store in Arkansas in 1962. His visions included helping customers and communities save money and live better. Walmart was considered the nation’s top retailer by the 90’s and enjoyed its first $100 billion sales year by 1997. In the New Millennium, “Walmart made a major commitment to environmental sustainability, announcing goals to create zero waste, use only renewable energy and sell products that sustain people and the environment.
