According to Heather Collins, successful thinking is “carefully reasoning about and actively engaging with your environment” and also “asking lots of questions”. Collins tells a childhood story about her as a young girl. She explains that “[she asked her] mom too many questions [and] asking all those questions when [she] was young was actually a good thing”. Collins states that constantly being curious and asking questions as a child is what made her a successful thinker today. Successful thinking is different from critical thinking because critical thinking is thinking reflectively and productively. When one thinks critically they evaluate evidence, but successful thinking is engaging with the world around you instead of analyzing from…

Sometimes I feel as though I’m more in stage 1 the Unreflective Thinker. Although I think, I’m unaware of how my thinking is structured or how to asses and improve it. At times when I experience problems in thinking, I feel as though I lack the skills to identify and fix the problems. Take my job for example, when dealing with irate customers I take a step back and look at it from their perspective; however, I feel as though I lack the confidence to help the customers fix their problems. There are also times when it’s busy and short drivers, I have to come up with a decision that requires me to think things through before making a final decision. Since I am a dispatcher, it is up to me to ensure the drivers arrive at their destination within twenty minutes and ensure all drivers get their turn at running calls.…

After reading “The Beginning Thinker,” I knew that’s my style of thinking. I have been thru so much in my life that now I break my thinking process down. I analyze everything. Like I have said I’m an addict and just to be able to come to that thinking process was the hardest thing I have ever done. I was in deny and block the thought of being an addict. I’m more open to the idea that I have or had a problem. I try to change my thinking pattern around more now than before. I look at different solution in a whole new light. I try to figure out why something is the way it is then just saying it is what it is. I want to know what caused it, how to fix it and how I could have done it different. I tend to ask question when I’m stuck but I still try to dominate others to get what I want. I also believe that I’m in this thinking stage because I still can remember being in the Challenged Thinker stage and being able to remember where you was and where you are now is very…

The development of critical thinking involves six stages that build upon one another as one advances their level of consciousness. The first stage is the unreflective thinker who inherently is unaware that they have a thought process. An unconscious person on this level tends to make decisions from a reactive viewpoint. Consequently, unreflective thinkers…

Since the start of this class my thinking as changed immensely. At the start of this class I was a “challenged thinker”. I had difficulty recognizing fault in my thinking, and I difficulty accepting others criticizing my thinking. As this class progressed, I was able to see where I needed to improve my thinking and I am realize that criticism is not something that is necessarily negative, but is a way to better my ideas further. I know longer see myself as a “challenged thinker”, because my thinking has improved. I am sure that I am now an “advance thinker”. I know that is a big…
