It is a matter of fact how well the American presidents have done their jobs in order to make America one of the most powerful countries. The one who left the biggest mark in my opinion was Theodore Roosevelt. He accomplished things that made America great. He was a man with a great education, who studied at an extremely prestigious university like Harvard. Two of his features that definitely made him unforgettable were his will to change things the best way possible and his charisma that obviously grabbed the attention and the esteem of the American folk.…

A dictionary definition of a leader is a guiding hand in a movement or group. My definition of a leader is someone who stands out amongst the rest and steps up to the task and helps the “followers” advance and strive to become a leader as well. The only way a leader can be effective is by leading by example. A prime example of this is Malala Yousafzai. She was shot in the face for trying to go to school. If she hadn’t gone to school she wouldn’t have been shot, but she also wouldn’t have a Nobel Peace prize. She is now using her story to speak for access to education for everyone. A leader is someone who leads by example and uses their skills to help others succeed.…

Some people might come to a certain conclusion about a person and think that they might make a great teacher or a great coach, but what about a president? Someone can be great at some things, but not so great in the role of others in my opinion. James Madison was better in politics than being president and I will try to argue my opinion. When he was not president, he wrote the Constitution. When he was president, he started wars, one of them being the Revolution, but instead of fighting in said wars, he always ran away from them. James Madison was being a coward, not a leader. He was a great man in some things and a not so much a great man in others.…

A great president is someone who is a strong leader, makes choices that will change the country for the better, and does what is best for the good of all the people. Some people would consider Andrew Jackson to be a great president because he did things such as revolutionizing presidential campaigning, which made him the first modern president, and using his presidential power to veto bills that he saw unfit or harmful. Others would argue that Andrew Jackson was a terrible president because he enforced Indian removal and that he abused his power to veto in an effort to intimidate and take more control over congress. Andrew Jackson is now know for being somewhat of a conundrum or contradiction because he did do a lot of good for our country but at the same time did thing that could be considered cruel and unjust.…

Throughout the history of the presidency, scholars have ranked each president in various ways. Despite the debate surrounding whom the “greatest” leaders of our nation are, ranking consistently proves difficult given the vast successes and failures each individual encountered. Similar to previous scholars, I have a created a rubric that outlines different characteristics of a “great” president. Each attribute within the rubric is important in distinguishing what I believe to be appropriate qualities in a president. As it is impossible to hold such individuals to a perfect standard, there is no one that flawlessly executed the position in the executive office; however, many did far better than others. By applying the rubric I previously created, it will reveal that Lyndon B.…
