As Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry Victor Frankl would say about being a man, he said that in life, before we finally realized what it is to be a fully human, we have to, at least, know the two types of life; Active and Passive Life where in an Active life serves the purpose of giving a man the opportunity to realize values in creative work, while a passive life is an enjoyment that affords a man to obtain fulfillment in experiencing nature, beauty or art.
Moreover, he had stated that we can answer the question to what really a man is in a sense of from the experiences we had as well as on principle which made us to choose one’s attitude in any given circumstances, in short, to choose one’s way.
From those statements of Frankl, I could say that every day and every hour, we always have to make choices even though it’s really hard to make one. It’s a decision which would determine us whether we would not or we would submit to the powers that threatened to rob our very own self and inner freedom because to take these would make life of a man meaningless.
Also, we can’t deny the fact that in making some decisions in life, we have to suffer. So for me, suffering is an inevitable part of life even as fate and death. Without suffering and death, human life or being man itself cannot be complete. Thus, one thing is for sure, if there is a meaning in life at all then there must be also a meaning in suffering.
Frankl also believed that a man who could not see the end of his existence was not able to aim at an ultimate goal in life. Hence, he ceased living for the future, in contrast to a man in goal and normal life and, therefore, the whole structure of his inner life changed. He said, “Life is like being at the dentist. You always think that the worse is still to come, and yet it is over already”.
In conclusion, I could say that most people in the world assumed that the real opportunities of life had passed when in fact, there was an
