What Of This Goldfish Would You Wish By Etgar Keret
If we all take the time to listen and love each other, this world would be a better place (Mike Love). Society judges other beings for what they appear to be. Society wants everyone to be themselves, yet everyone gets judged for not acting “the right way”. According to society, our actions must relate to everyone else's. In other words, we may have to be a copy of what society expects us to be and we may not be an original. However, why be same when we were born to be different? Creating a bond or friendship with someone, having empathy for others, and discovering yourself as an individual are reasons why people should accept others who are different from themselves.

Le Guin shares that having empathy for other individuals is a reason why people should welcome everyone who is diverse. The wife’s family was not ordinary, they were wolves. One day, the wife starts to notice obscure actions that her husband would perform at night when the luminous moon was out. Once she saw his “true form”, she called her pack and “her sister’s teeth were in [his] throat. [She] got there and [he] was dead” (19). Le Guin demonstrates that due to fear of the husband’s identity, the wife committed the mistake of liquidated her partner. She lost a loved one because of the misconception of believing her husband was a hostile or inferior to her species since he was different. She believed that if he passed away, the “spell” that caused the werewolf transformation would be unraveled, but that wasn’t the case. She regretted the fact that she had lost her husband for not accepting and understanding that his identity could not be changed. The wife did not accept or embrace her husband’s differences, that is why she was filled with guilt at the end of the day. All inclusive, embracing someone who is a different from you may lead you to having empathy for another

All the wishes show that he puts others first rather than himself. His first wish was to cure his sister’s cancer. The second wish applies to Sveta’s son, because the kid was small in the mind and would not make it, when growing up, even though Sveta left him for a cop...…

Not all people have the same perceptions as that of what others may have, however there may be some similarities in their perceptions. Like in “Cannery Row” by Steinbeck, he has his own perception of what a person like “Doc”, a character from his book, would be like. Steinbeck perceives Doc as a man who can not only be said to be intelligent and kind but can also be described as an all around role model towards those that are around him. While, Steinbeck has his own perception of Doc, society also has they're own. Society views Doc as a person who is lonely, selfless, and misunderstood by others.…

Humanity is diverse. From birth until death, people are trained like circus animals. “Do this,” but “Don’t do that,” they say. “Make a mark on the world,” and “Give opinions a voice,” but heaven forbid someone is stepped on in the process. For most of people’s lives, they are trying to be unique and separate themselves from the pack, while still unconsciously wanting to stay in the pack.…

People and society don’t make you, they don’t decide who you are or what you become, YOU create yourself. Society is cruel in many ways than one, when it comes to who we become. Society creates these images that we see. We see it and we know we can’t be that! That we can never, ever achieve this goal society has planted on us.…

Empathy, to me, means that everyone should have the same opportunity as everyone else. That everyone should be given the same chance. It should be up to you to how you use that opportunity. In Harrison Bergeron it's believed that equality means that everyone should be the same in every way and that this is a good thing. I disagree with this completely.…

This quote interests me due to the fact that I had a lot of different opinions on roles of men and women than many of my peers at college as well. I grew up watching a man go to work, and contribute to the washing of the dishes and cooking. My Mother also worked and did some cooking and cleaning. In my household growing up everybody had equal responsibility in the household. The author’s message is that you shouldn’t judge anyone based on your enclosed beliefs on how society operates. The title of the passage is perfect due to the fact that it is exactly that that you can live your life by, or you can live your life without the thoughts carried in your head, and be open to every different experience with an open mind. That is like a man assuming that a woman should just be behind a stove because she is a…

You read above that having our individual differences acknowledged and understood helps us to develop a sense of belonging, or inclusion; and that disadvantaging people because they are different in some way leads to their becoming excluded. It follows, then, that inclusion is about accepting everyone, regardless of difference. It is also about getting rid of intolerance of differences and providing help and support where appropriate.…

I agree so strongly with this viewpoint because in my opinion, society is a key factor in one’s behavior and attitude; which leads me to the fact that I strongly believe that an individual’s environment has a huge impact on the decisions they make throughout their lives. In the world today (and even many years ago) people are always looking for that “approval” of those around them, along with the continued “need” to be like their peers. This is all why I find that sociocultural viewpoint to be another suiting viewpoint. Personally in growing up, I was always the odd ball but still did things to make sure that I remained in the “in crowd” with those of my peers I communicated with…

In this world where image and identity play such a significant role in life it’s only natural that people fear being rejected; they urge a sense of belonging and so they conform to what is seen as correct in society. This is true for most but there are the occasional few who strive to set themselves apart from the rest and follow what they believe in. These individuals are considered to be different and because of it they are often alienated by society. Being different can be considered anything from looking a certain way, speaking a certain way, acting a certain away, and etc. This demonstrates the relationship and clash between the individual and the community.…

We’ve all seen or heard people telling you how to look, feel, or act. People telling you to change,so you can fit in or look better. We all have been pressured to be something we’re not. Society thinks that conformity is huge part of life, that it keeps everything together. Conformity is important, but what’s more important is being unique, being yourself not someone you’re not. It is not good for individuals to change their feels, beliefs, looks, or actions to fit in with society because you’re basically changing your image to impress people.…

On the Subject Of the Human Mind and Relationships As a general rule of life, humans simply cannot go without being judged or thought about in an opinionated way. Once a man named Theodore Seuss Geisel said, “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those matter don't mind”. At a first glance the quote might be small and obvious, but when dissected it has a enormous meaning. The quote gives way to the idea that people who don't like you can be ignored while people that do like you cannot(Geisel).…
