What Role Do Organic Molecules Play In Living Organisms
The organic compounds are carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins. Each which are made up of elements and monomers. Each organic compound has it's own function and chemical structure. Each compound also plays a role in living organisms. Carbohydrates are composed of several elements, and one monomer. The elements include: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. Carbohydrates are composed of only one monomer, which is monosaccharides. Monosaccharides are the simplest carbohydrates, and are required as energy sources. The function of carbohydrates is to provide energy, as they are the body's main source of fuel, needed for physical activity, brain function and operation of the organs. The role that carbohydrates play in living organisms is that living things use carbohydrates as their main source of energy. All the cells and tissues in your body needs carbohydrates, and they are also important for intestinal health and waste elimination. Lipids are composed of only elements. The elements include: carbon, and hydrogen. Lipids are not composed of any monomers. The function of lipids is to store energy, signaling, and acting as structural components of cell membranes. The elements that make up nucleic acids include: hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus. The monomer that nucleic acids are composed of is Nucleotides. The function of nucleic acids is to store and transport hereditary or genetic information. The main role of nucleic acids is to store information that is used to make proteins. Nucleic acids come in two main forms; deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA), and ribonucleic acids (RNA). The main function of DNA is to store the genetic information that cells in the body need to function.
