One of these debates, on the ending of the war, are based on who won the war. The western world, specifically the United States believes that they won the war. Hover, countries such as Russia, a state created after the fall of the Soviet Union, believes that there was no winner to the war. Another argument surrounding the end of the war, is based on whether or not the end of the war was inevitable. Personally, I do believe that the ending to the Cold War was inevitable. I say this because the majority of the Cold War was an arms race, therefore the government spending to maintain this battle would eventually have caused one country's economy to fail; in this case it was the USSR’s economy. For example, If the United States economy began to suffer like the Soviet Union’s then the United States would be limited and unable to keep up with the Soviet’s achievements. Ultimately, whether one country succeeded over the other another reason the end of the war was inevitable is due to the increased belief in world peace. The United States and the USSR signed a peace treaty to ensure that tension from the Cold War didn’t stem into a nuclear war (Nyes). The incidents that lead to the end of the Cold War, although there are multiple explanations and theories to explain it, was due to the political and economic nature of the Soviet Union. Although there was never an actual bloodshed war between the nations, the tension caused for a change in the economic, political and social nature of both nations.
