What Was The Progressive Era

The progressive era was the time of widespread social activism and political reforms that occurred across the country from 1890 to the 1920’s. During this era change was seen in many places from child labor reforms which led to law being passed to protect the children from dangerous working conditions to the the change in in women’s rights allowing women to vote nationwide.
We see that during the progressive era people wanted change in child labor the US. The people who shed light on this problem were the muckrakers. They were journalist who exposed the problems in the US in hopes of influencing the people and the government to address problems. The women's rights movement saw women fighting for women's suffrage. They fought for women to become equal with men and not be deemed a property for men. The women's right movement used many tactics in their fight for women's right which included parades showing off the iron maiden, pamphlets, and most controversial of them all picketing the white house. This was an effective strategy by the National Woman's Party (NWP) as this bought shock around the country, this was the first time in where picketing in front of the white house was used and it was very effective as it was one of the main reasons to why the 19th amendment was passed after controversy of the the women picketing from january till november and the unlawful arrest of women. This relates to the modern day picketing of the white house during the time of Trump’ inauguration for the Women’s march on Washington. They planned a picket during the inauguration just like the picket during Wilson's coming to the whitehouse. This was a modern day use of this strategy seen today.
