What Were The Causes Of Immigration In The 1800s

During the late 1800s and the 1900s immigration became a very big part of U.S history. While immigrants were coming they all came for one reason, because there were hardships in the places they came from. Also when they arrived there were many hardships these immigrants faced. First of all, many immigrants came to the U.S because they had many hardships in their native countries. One of the reasons that many immigrants came was because there were “hard times and epidemic in Italy,” this is shone in document one almost one point one million people immigrated at this time. Also stated in document two “ every war England had she had you pay her part, even though you just had nothing, and you had to pay on your land some expenses of it…,” this shows that people had hard times with there money because at the time England was at war so the Irish had to pay the expenses. Also in document three it states “ Work over there was bad. In those days [1967], a worker in Greece mad about five dollars a day…”. it was hard for the immigrants because of many things such as getting jobs and being able to pay taxes and rent. One of the reasons that it was hard for many immigrants was because they could not get all of the money they needed even though some of the immigrants worked twelve hours a day. According to document six it shows many men and women are holding up signs that say “we want 8 hours work,” and “ We demand 8 hour work days,” and this shows me that these men and women are fighting for shorter work days. This also shows me that people are working over and they should have shorter days.Another thing, in document seven it states “ I want live with american people, but I do not know anybody of american. I go four times to teacher, and must pay two dollars weekly.
