It’s true, no-one truly looks like these adverts representation of woman; they’re fake, un-natural and the way they make people (especially teenagers) feel is vile! Not only do they make woman feel bad because they don’t look like that, they make men think that it is normal for a woman to look like that and they expect it to be a natural thing.
Okay, so Photoshop is useful and fun to use. Changing you from remotely good looking to damn right hot is definitely helpful, but has it been taken too far? With people using their photo shopped pics as their Facebook profiles and using them on dating sites more and more, no one really knows who anyone is anymore. Surely this should be an offence.
One a recent study found that a whopping 98% of woman asked had used Photoshop in a deliberate attempt to change or “improve” their overall appearance and with apps like ‘instawow’ or ‘perfectpicture’ available for free on most phones now, could we see this number start to rise?
So I ask why? Why make apps, magazines and adverts that make women everywhere feel ashamed to be who they are? I’m sure that if they made adverts aimed at woman feeling better and sure of them that they would make more profit; wouldn’t you rather buy some jeans that make you look stunning as you are rather than making a model look good and you look like an overstuffed sleeping bag?!
So, to conclude I say, BAN IT! You are already beautiful no matter how you look; inside and out! Why would you want an app that makes you look drop dead gorgeous, just to look in the mirror and realize that even though you are beautiful, the picture on your phone isn’t you? Stop the lying to yourself and the poor man on match.com, and stop lying to your Facebook friends!
