Yosemite National Park is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range that has many granite rocks (Stock et al., 2011). When Yosemite’s valley was being formed, glaciation began because the world became colder; thus causing a sheet of ice to layer and causing glaciers to form (Beatty, 1943). These glaciers helped form the height of the mountain range and the canyons. However, there has been no real explanation found scientifically why or how the earth became cold enough to form an ice sheet.
