When Would I Be Considered An Adult?
Have you ever thought to yourself at what age would i be considered an adult? Well i asked myself that same question many times and the truth is most likely people probably don’t know. People are likely to assume the age where a child would reach maturity based on appearence. The age by which a person should be considered an adult is 16 and older. First of all,When a person becomes older the brain may declare what age a person may reach maturity. A person’s brain obtains remarkable adjustments when a would reach maturity. The method on how the brain does this is by the brain's anatomy and activity taking changes little by little based on young adulthood. For example, on page 236 the article by Laurence Steinberg states “systems responsible …show more content…
Next,If you are old enough to stand up for yourself and make your own decisions, you should be accounted for as an adult. When a person becomes independent the parents should realize that their child isn’t a child anymore but a young adult. The reason why is because when a person wants to stand for themselves, they should be known as a adult. For instance, “young people are also remaining dependent on parents financially far longer, often leaving them less likely to perceive themselves as adults” as said by Barbara Hofer on page 240. This explains that if parents raise their kids to be too dependent on them, they might not grow up to be adults but rely always on their parents. Which is why, if children grow up to be independent they are most likely by to be considered as adults most likely by the time they are 16.In this case,If children become too reliant on their parents they won’t be an adult by the time they are 16 and older. Furthermore, I comprehend that other may argue with my logic on what age a person would become an adult. People may mention that the age 18 should be the age where a person would become an adult because that’s the age you get to

During adolescence brain growth continues and changes in the frontal cortex region. The adolescent begins to change how they think, reason, and understand. The argument “a mature person is self-directing, so parents who make all their children’s for them are doing their offspring a disservice” has allot of validity to it, and in more ways than one is true. A child whose parents or guardians make all of his or her decisions for them, are in a way hindering the child because the child does not have the opportunity to think for himself. When that child grows up and needs to be able to make important decisions such as what college to go to, who to marry, or what kind of job to apply for, that child will more likely than not, not know how to properly decide based on the information or facts provided to him or her. For instance if a child grows up and is faced with what college to go to and that child has never had to make any important decision for himself, that child may end up in a college going after a degree program that is not truly what he or she wants to do with their life based on what his or her parent tell them they should go into. That child has then wasted four to five years of his or her life and has to start all over searching for the proper degree or job where he or she can thrive financially and be happy. There is a minute percent of children who will be able to overcome the mentality of not having to think on his or her own and be able to make the important decisions that need to be made, but at what price? How many times will that child have to make the wrong choice and suffer because they were not allowed to think on their own? The constant failure and rejection could possibly make matters worse for the child, and could lead to relinquishing all hope.…

I am not an adult, I am a child. To be an adult you have to be fiscally responsible, and mature. I am not fiscally responsible because even though I have a small job where I make spending money, I still rely on my parents for all of my needs. I do not fully understand what it means to really save money because the money I make I just spend on wants, not needs. I have yet to do any of these things. Also as a 17 about to be 18 year old boy I am still not fully mature, I still act like a child quite often. An example of this immaturity is I still expect Christmas and birthday presents, I still expect my parents to pay for me when I am with them, and finally I still sometimes act like a little kid when I do not get what I want.…

    Age of Responsibility

No two people exactly the same, so people develop at different rates. “The fact that every person is different and develops at his own pace doesn't make the creation of policy any easier.” (Greenblatt 22). It would be extremely difficult to make a solid age of responsibility since everyone is different. Any age decided upon would be unfair for some people and perfectly fine for other. There is also the fact that there is no upper limit to the age of responsibility. There are copious amounts of older people whose minds are fading; they can’t recognize it themselves and they don’t always have someone there to recognize it for them. These people are equally if not more dangerous than someone under the age of responsibility because they are not always capable of making sound judgments and there is a strong possibility of them being under the Influence of some form of medication and/or alcohol. It is a well-known fact that women generally mature faster than men physically, emotionally, and mentally. Does this mean that women should have a lower age of responsibility than men? No, because this fact is a general statement based on the analysis of a few individuals and couldn’t possibly represent everyone. Some women mature slowly and some don’t mature at all, while some men mature quickly, and some mature at a normal rate. Due to the individuality of people and the many factors that affect growth and maturity there is no way to make a solid, fair age of responsibility.…

Pure independence comes in various forms; obtaining a paying job, going to university or buying a home, these are what complete independence is made of and what each child should dream of. An adult, while they may need assistance at times, should be able to support themselves. An adult, while they may not have all the answers, should be able to provide information for themselves. An adult, while they may not be sure, should be able to make decisions for themselves. Adulthood is intertwined with individualism and self-reliance and learning how to be independent is the mark of adulthood.…

    Becoming an Adult

People never seem to quite understand the meaning of being an “adult”. I myself am not very sure of the full meaning of it. It has always seemed to me that age is irrelevant. You can be 12 and understand things better than a 30-year-old or you can be 40, have two PhD’s and still wonder if pigeons are migratory birds. Many people my age think that getting out of their parents’ house is an act of maturity but how does changing your situation prove that you are an “adult”? If they run away from home it is more likely to lose themselves trying to cope alone and underprepared with the difficulties in life. To become an adult you must achieve a separate identity. Still everyone perceives the world and every thought in it through their own consciousness.…
