Max’s mother sends him to his room after tormenting her with his boisterous behavior. His imagination imaginings concocts a forest in his room and ocean to take him to where the “wild things” live.
Max’s character is not overly developed in this story. He portrays a boy who likes to wear a wolf suit and annoy his mother. Max’s illustrious ingenuity and personality are present throughout the scenes. For example, upon arriving where the wild things dwell: Max hears the roars and teeth gnashing of the beasts; but, Max remains fearless.
“Where The Wild Things Are”, depicts a stereotypical boy. Max is a mischief-maker always getting into trouble. To prove, he runs around the house, scares the dog, and bangs the walls with a hammer. Like most boys his age, Max wants his mother’s love and approval.
The story conveys the message that mother’s forgive and love their children even when they misbehave. This is revealed at the end of the book when Max is back in his room and his warm dinner is waiting for him. The story builds up to this climax by describing Max’s journey and his bravado, but he really yearns for home and his mother’s
